TNBS Kick-Off Symposium

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the kick-off symposium of the new center for Translational Neuro- and Behavioral Sciences of the faculty of medicine of the University of Duisburg-Essen. For many years, the neuroscience and behavioral sciences have been a clinical and academic asset in Essen. Examples include an exceptionally strong and high-class publication output, participation in collaborative research, such as the DFG Collaborative Research Centers 1280 (Extinction Learning) and 240 (Platelets), the DFG Research Groups 1328 (Placebo / Nocebo) and 1581 (Learning / Extinction), the DFG Research Training Group 2098 (sphingomyelinases) as well as on European projects (eg Horizon 2020 program). No fewer than 17 clinics and institutes as well as 25 professors belong to this research focus. For this reason, we are very grateful that the Faculty of Medicine and the Board of the Essen University Medical Center has unreservedly supported the establishment of this new research area.

Our thematic breadth is both a challenge and an opportunity. We know ourselves as interdisciplinary scientists, who strive for maximum networking both within the center of gravity and with other research areas in Essen. In many cases this is already actively practiced. The program that we have put together for you should also be an expression of this breadth and interaction. For this reason, colleagues of medical psychology, neurology, neuro-pediatrics, neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and neuroradiology will address current topics and present their own research results. We are especially pleased that there are two international partners, Prof. Meyer from Zurich and Prof. Gold from Bochum enrich our event. We look forward to welcoming you to Essen and wish us a lively discussion and an exciting exchange!
